Smaller critters such as hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, mice and other small animals often get overlooked when it comes to shelter donations. These sweet creatures need essentials to survive and flourish, just like any other rescued furry friends!

When these animals end up at a rescue or shelter – whether it be from neglect,injury or surrenderedby their owner, they need just as much attention and supplies as other pets. Financial resources are often very tight for shelters and rescues and they need to go toward food and shelter, so other items fall to the wayside. Although small, these cute critters do need some essential supplies, and some fun ones too! By providing these supplies you can help a small animal have a happy, hygienic, and comfy life while awaiting their forever family.

Snack Pack: This pack includes a chewing toythat helps keep teeth from getting too long and helps animals satisfy their natural chewing instinct to keep their teeth healthy. Also, a bag ofnutritious and tasty treats will be sent on your behalf.

Cleanliness Kit: A corner litter box will be sent which helps the keep the pet’s environment clean from droppings. A hay holder will be sent to keep food off the ground and keep sanitary. And some cotton nesting bedding material will also be set to keep the animal comfy and cozy.

The Animal Lover Mega Pack: This pack has it all. Included will be a chewing toy, a bag of treats, a corner litter box, a hay holder, and nesting material. It will also include a hide hut for the animal so they can feel safe and secure ina new environment. Plus, a fun, playtime essential for these cute critters: an exercise toy. These little guys love to get their exercise and run around, soan open-air exercise toy will also be sent. Help care for these sweet fur babies that tend to be forgotten about!

Impact:

Candy and Kit Kat, came to HSPPR together after their owners could no longer care for them. They spent a lot of time hiding amongst their bedding but came out to explore their new veggie burger and side salad. These sweet sidekicks were adopted together.

Porky and Oreo, two senior guinea pigs at Brookings Regional Humane Society, had a blast playing with some enrichment toys that were sent to them.

Ludwig and Gino, 8 month old guinea pigs, were surrendered to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. The shelter was “thrilled to receive some enrichment items for the small animals” in their care. These sweet little guys were adopted soon after this photo was taken.
